EFTTA President：EFTTEX must accept Chinese firms

That the Association will continue to work with Chinese producers at its EFTTEX show. Speaking exclusively to Angling International, Pierangelo Zanetta has argued that it is EFTTA’ s duty to cooperate with legitimate Chinese businesses.

His comments, which will be seen as controversial, follow complaints made by Stephen Colvin, of Eyelevel Sunglasses, an EFTTEX exhibitor, at June’s AGA in Vienna. The UK company complained to the EFTTA board that allowing Chinese businesses to exhibit at the show led to unfair competition.

“We cannot ignore the fact that the majority of the products in the show are produced in China, ” says, Zanetta.“Our industry moved production into low cost countries we cannot cry now. It is exactly the same issue for any kind of production.”

“If we see the Far East as a danger we will go nowhere. We have already passed the point of no return. The duty EFTTA is to cooperate with the Chinese producers association so that we can promote the ‘good’ companies and have a severe approach to the ‘bad’ ones. This is the right strategy. It is too late for protectionism.”

“These countries are getting rich and they will soon present an opportunity for European companies to sell their products,” added Zanetta. “I see with satisfaction an increasing number of European companies at the China Fish show.”
